1,509

We're home from Spain! We got back two days ago, and I think we've all recovered from our jet lag. We had a wonderful time in Spain and were so not ready to come home on Sunday. But, alas, all good things must come to an end. So here I am, back in Tennessee, trying to sort through all the pictures I took in and around Barcelona. 1,509 of them, to be exact. I know - I have no self-control! It will likely take me awhile to choose my favorites, resize them, and post them on here and on facebook, so, for now, I'll just share a few along with a video of one of my favorite moments from last week.

Last Thursday night, my parents, Tekia, and I (Jamal was hanging out with friends at the hotel) went out for yet another evening of wandering around downtown Barcelona. We took the metro to what's known as the Gothic district. We ended up walking through a square in front of Barcelona's huge gothic cathedral. Like most little squares in big European cities, it was very crowded with other wanderers like us. People were walking around and talking, and music was being played by a band (think high school, not rock) on the steps of the cathedral. Suddenly, we noticed several Spanish people - mostly elderly people - forming a circle, joining hands, and dancing. Then another circle formed. Then another. Then another. They were all doing the same dance. It must've been an old traditional Spanish dance, because most of the dancers were older people and they all knew the dance. Before we knew it, we were surrounded by dancing Spaniards and were in the minority as we were among the few who were not in a circle. It was crazy! Ever seen those "flash mob" youtube videos where a lot of people do a dance in a public place> Well, I could've sworn we were in one of those. After about ten minutes (seriously, it was like the song that doesn't end!), the song ended, the circles broke up, and everyone just went back to business as usual. It was basically a natural flash mob. So cool!

This lady was my favorite. I watched her walk up to a circle, throw her cane in the middle with everyone else's belongings, grab some hands and start dancing! Note the cane lying on the ground. ;-)

So happy to be dancing. Love it.
And here are a couple clips.
