"starving"

One month ago today, we waited

and waited

and waited

and waited

and. waited.

And that's just who was left in the waiting room at 6 o'clock at night! There were about 35 - 40 others who made their way in and out of the waiting room to hang out with us during our nine hours there that day. What wonderful friends we have.

It's hard to believe it's been a month since my mom's Whipple surgery. It feels like it's been six years. It's hard to believe that just one month and three weeks ago things were "normal."

You may have gathered from my recent blog and facebook posts that last week wasn't a great one for Mom. Until yesterday. Yesterday was probably her best day yet! We had lots of visitors, including our favorite two-year-old, whom we haven't seen since May! Mom spent an hour or so sitting outside watching the girls play. She was up a lot and enjoyed visiting with everyone. My aunt and uncle were in town, so they and my grandmother came over for dinner. Mom was exhausted by the end of the day, but told me that she thinks she'll be able to go to HeartLight. :-) I hope so!

Last night Mom only slept from about midnight to 2:30, so that part of it wasn't great. But guess what? At 5am, she was awake and realized she was starving (her words)! She was so excited! So she ate a snack. I can't say she's had any "starving" moments today, but she's eaten a little bit at each meal and kept everything down so far. We didn't expect her appetite medicine to start working so soon (she just started it on Friday), but maybe it has! Hopefully she'll keep eating and this will help her energy level pick up. Of course more sleep would help, too, so keep praying about that.

And please be in prayer about Mom's appointment with Dr. Tauer, her oncologist, on Tuesday. I'll be going with her (thanks to my wonderful friend, Jenn, who's working for me). She could end up getting herceptin (for breast cancer) or chemo (for pancreatic cancer) that day or next week or in a month. Who knows. But I'm sure we'll get some answers about when chemo will start and when herceptin will start back. Pray for wisdom for Dr. Tauer.

So thankful for a God who makes all things new. :-)
