It's been a while since I've done one of these. I love doing posts on Saturday nights because I know I don't have to come up with a clever title!
Anyway, thought you guys might like an update on Trish. Upon returning from Tekia's cheerleading competition in Orlando (where she won 1st place! Tekia, not Trish) last week, Trish had an appointment with Dr. T's nurse practitioner. Mostly he just told us about Tykerb and its potential side effects. Tykerb is the new med Mom's taking to slow/stop the growth of her breast cancer; I talked about it a little bit here. Mom started the Tykerb last week. She takes five pills a day, all at once. If you're like me, you're probably wondering why they can't just put it in one big pill. Well, because they put it in five big pills. Between this new medication and all the post-Whipple meds she takes to make her remodeled digestive system work correctly, Mom is easily taking 15+ pills each day. And that's not even counting any meds she takes to combat the side effects of Tykerb!
She's been having pretty severe GI side effects, unfortunately. Nothing new for her, but still not pleasant. Her nurse practitioner talked like the side effects sometimes get better once your body gets acclimated to the Tykerb, so hopefully that will be the case for Trish. Mom will go back and see Dr. Tauer in about two weeks to discuss how she's tolerating the Tykerb. They'll make changes to her dosage or side effect meds if needed. Be praying that these side effects will lessen and Mom will be able to tolerate this drug and still feel as normal as possible!
And you can go ahead and start praying about Mom's next CT scan, which will be on April 25th! We're praying for no more cancer growth of any kind!
So that's the lastest on Trish. Tomorrow afternoon we'll be walking in the Kick It 5k, a race to benefit the Kosten Foundation, which raises money for pancreatic cancer research and support. The proceeds of the race will go directly to fund the research and support efforts of our favorite Whipple surgeon, Dr. Behrman. If you're in Memphis and need something to do on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon, come on out to Shelby Farms and join us! More info here.
Oh yeah, and tomorrow I turn 28.
