Technically it should be the 9/19 PM update, since I never posted an actual update yesterday and since none of us have seen her yet this morning. Yesterday was a pretty good day for Mom. She had to spend another day in ICU because her heart rate was still elevated. It's gotten lower since surgery, but it still runs 100-115. At 10pm last night, it was still up, so I'm not sure if they'll let her go to a room today or not. On Saturday night, they turned her on side for a while and she ended up needed her oxygen back during that endeavor. So she remains on a little bit of oxygen (2 liters of 100% for you medical people). She also had a low grade fever again last night (99.4) but her temperature was normal during the day yesterday.
Mom got up in a chair twice yesterday (with help) and stayed up for an hour each time! She's pushing the button on her pain pump less and less every day - the day after surgery she was pushing it every 15 minutes and yesterday it was more like 1-2 times an hour. They removed the dressing on her incision yesterday morning, and it looks good (says the NICU nurse). Mom says her throat hurts her just as much as her incision. It's sore from being intubated for 9+ hours on Friday and also from the NG tube that runs from her nose to her stomach to drain blood or any other drainage from her stomach. She still hasn't been allowed to have anything in her mouth besides a spongy swab dipped in water. We're hoping today they'll at least let her have ice chips.
She's still sleeping most of the day (or attempting to sleep - she says it's nearly impossible with all the noise and interruptions, but she keeps dreaming that she's got to go pick up the kids or take them somewhere, so she's falling asleep every once in a while), so we're still asking that visitors be limited to family only for the time being. I'll let everyone know as soon as she feels like having "real" company. We just sit and watch her sleep and keep an eye on the ICU staff. ;-)
The prayer requests are pretty much the same . . . no infection (please stay awake from the hospital if you're not feeling well!) or other complications . . . decreased heart rate . . . continued recovery . . . less pain . . . good results from the biopsy of her lymph nodes . . . and a cancer-free life from here on out! Please also pray that the rest of us will stay healthy so we can continue to visit her. Tekia's too young to visit the ICU anyway, but she's been complaining of a sore throat, so she won't be visiting Mom in any area of the hospital until that's resolved (and she really wants to see her mom!).
And, finally, please say a prayer for our dear friend John, whose mom went to be with Jesus last night.
