there's no place like home

I'm just barely keeping my eyes open, but I wanted to let all the Tricia fans know that her first night and day back at home have been good ones. :-) Much like at the hospital, she's sleeping/sitting in her recliner - only this recliner is much more comfortable than the one she's been in for last two weeks! She slept better last night than she did any of her 14 nights in the hospital, though she still woke up a couple of times to take pain medication and Benadryl (the "sleeping pill" prescribed by her surgeon). Hopefully soon she'll be able to sleep all night in her own bed.

Today has been good as well. Mom seems to have experienced a little more pain today than she has the last couple of days, but she's also been much more active than she was in the hospital. I thought she was sleeping when I took a shower this afternoon and came downstairs to find her putting away snacks from the hospital and washing clothes. Maybe she took Dr. B's "don't lie around all the time" speech a little too seriously.

She came home with one of her drains and has had quite a bit of output from it today. We hope that will start to decrease so Dr. B can take the drain out at her follow-up appointment (which is in about a week and a half). Mom still has no appetite (pray for that!) and has to force herself to eat even small amounts. For example, for lunch today she had almost one-fourth of a sandwich and three grapes. Because part of her stomach was removed, eating after this surgery is similar to how people have to eat after gastric bypass. She's trying to eat several small meals/snacks throughout the day in hopes that eventually her appetite will come back.

It will be a while before Mom's back to her old self, and I know this is frustrating and discouraging for her. Being home has helped, though - she would've pulled her hair out if she had to spend much longer in that hospital room! Thanks so much for your prayers and concern. Much love. :-)
